Headliners: Linkin Park

Headliners: Linkin Park

Bringing an end to what should be a wonderful weekend are some huge names in the broad rock scene.

It's a testament to Download Festival's diversity that such drastically different bands are performing on the final day.

Even ignoring the headliners, we'll be at Donington chatting to acts as diverse as Bowling For Soup, Silverstein and Buckcherry. Who, though, are the big names? Check out our previews of Friday and Saturday, and now we'll break down the headliners on Sunday.

Frank Turner (Pepsi Max Stage)

An unlikely act for Donwload, Frank Turner is not the typical style for the festival, despite his background with Million Dead.

The singer-songwriter (who spoke to Female First last week) is set to see his years of hard work pay off, with a predicted Top 10 spot for his new album by Sunday evening.

On Monday Frank played at the Barfly in Camden and played a mixed set, which included more of the new album with some older songs thrown in.

That said, it's doubtful that more than two or three from the new album will get an airing at Donington.

To really make his mark, Turner should focus on his older material that everyone can sing along to, to create a special moment for anyone attending.

Regardless, he will bring his exciting folk-punk hybrid to the Pepsi Max Stage this weekend, in what should be an intimate gig providing an atmospheric and energetic end to the festival for his fans.

The Cure (Second Stage)

Pioneers of the post-punk scene, The Cure will be closing the Second Stage to end the weekend.

For any other band, performing immediately before Rob Zombie may be intimidating, but The Cure are veterns of the live scene, and should be more than capable.

The reaction on the Download forums seems to be hoping for a concise, hit-based set, rather than any new material.

Rob Zombie (Second Stage)

The Grammy Award winner hasn't played at Download since he performed with his band White Zombie 18 years ago.

Returning this year, fans can expect a brutal live show which complements his heavy, big live sound.

Hopefully the recent news of having to cancel his Ireland shows means that Rob Zombie will be even more motivated to put on a steller show at Download this weekend.

Bullet For My Valentine (Main Stage)

The Welsh heavy metal act headlined the Second Stage last year, and are back this weekend to perform just before Linkin Park.

Q Magazine has described them as the best metal band in the UK, and it's hard to argue when it comes to Bullet For My Valentine's live show.

Putting them above Disturbed at Download is maybe a questionable choice, but BFMV are (whether people like or not) one of the faces of the contemporary UK metal scene.

They should definitely get the crowd ready for Linkin Park's exciting end to the weekend.

Linkin Park (Main Stage)

This year will mark Linkin Park's third Download appearance...and their third headline slot.

When they last played in 2007, the band followed Marilyn Manson and Slayer. This year sees them play after sets from Bullet For My Valentine and Disturbed, lessening the pressure slightly.

It's hard to believe LP have been going since 1996, with no signs of stopping following the recent release of their latest album.

For any long-term punters of Download, we'll be hoping Linkin Park manage to keep it fresh, whilst pleasing the first-timers. Done right, this should be a great end to the festival.
