Little Boots

Little Boots

Field Day 09 drops yet another A-list of performers. Cosmic synth pop chanteuse Little Boots plays a full live set, The Horrors and Mystery Jets both re-emerge with a brand new sound and dancehall queen Santigold  plays one of just two exclusive UK dates all summer, the other being Field  Day’s ‘little brother’ Underage Festival.

Following the announcement of Malian star Toumani Diabaté, Field Day throw another curveball, in the shape of Argentinean singer-producer-songwriter Juana Molina, who makes what can only be described as atmospheric, bass-heavy Latin folk, with an experimental edge. Molina sings mainly in her native Rioplatense Spanish, but has also recorded in English, and French. Her second album, Segundo, was named for Best World Music Album 2003 in Entertainment Weekly and gained a Shortlist Award nomination in 2004. Tres Cosas was placed in the Top Ten Records of 2004 by the New York Times.

Victoria Hesketh, known professionally as Little Boots, combines the best bits of Kylie-esque electro-synth pop, and the ever-growing cosmic/italo disco renaissance. At the age of 16, Hesketh took part in the ITV TV talent show Pop Idol, being eliminated after three rounds. She went on to form a jazz trio, toured Europe with a big band, and later joined Dead Disco. Little Boots recently stormed South By South West in Austin, Texas and is scheduled to release her debut album ‘Hands’ on June 6th. The album features the song ‘Symmetry’, in which she duets with Human League frontman Phil Oakey.

American future-electro-dancehall pin up Santigold has captured the imagination of forward-thinking music fans that like their booty-shaking bass divas dressed in a neon rave catsuit with a pop hat. Songwriter, singer, producer Santi White, as she’s know to her folks, has collaborated with the definitive who’s who of cool artists, including MIA, Spank Rock, Radioclit, Diplo, Sinden, Pharrel (NERD), Julian Casablancas (The Strokes), Mark Ronson and Nick Zinner from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. If that wasn’t enough, she’s performed with Jay Z, Kanye West and Roots Manuva, and co-wrote a song for Lily Allen. An un-missable addition to this year’s line-up, especially as it’s an exclusive UK date alongside her appearance at this year’s Underage Festival. Santigold is currently in the studio with David Byrne and the Beastie Boys.

The Horrors lead singer Farris may’ve dated Peaches Geldof, but don’t let that put you off their dark, clanging garage rock. Faris Badwan (formerly Rotter) heads up a motley crew of impeccably dressed ne’er do wells from Southend. Badwan, guitarist Joshua Third, Tomethy Furse (bass), keyboardist Spider Webb and drummer Coffin Joe look like a cross between Tim Burton extras, stylish goths and Dickensian villains. Their sound crosses punk, Joe Meek and Phil Spector, My Bloody Valentine and Psychedelic Furs, with Nuggets-era rock & roll. Their forthcoming album ‘Primary Colours’was produced by Geoff Barrow of Portishead fame, and references the likes of CAN and Joy Division. Primary Colours is their first album on XL Recordings and hits the shops this May.

Formed around the London musical landmark Eel Pie Island, Mystery Jets will be airing new material from their forthcoming album. Their music won fans and plaudits alike for its ramshackle, psychedelic folk nostalgia and pop sensibility. They’ve also worked with Errol Alkan as producer and have explored a more 80s influenced sound. The band once put on a tribute show to Syd Barrett (one of their biggest influences) at the Union Chapel in Islington, London. Performers included Kid Harpoon, Lupen Crook, Kate Nash, the Television Personalities, Drew from Babyshambles and Mystery Jets. Not since the Partridge Family was there a more famous cross- generational band, as dad Henry Harrison and son Blaine record (and formerly gig) together.

Brought to you by London’s most adventurous and daring promoters - Eat Your Own Ears, Adventures In The Beetroot Field, Bugged Out! – Field Day will bring you the most cutting edge line up of bands and DJs in the 2009 Festival season. The heart of East London will be transformed into a Village Fete. Away from sound systems and stages the masses can indulged in some countrified fun and games on the Village Green area - 'Village Mentality' - within the festival.  Try your luck on the tombola, crack a few nuts on the coconut shy - or just sit on some hay bales and stuff your face with homemade cake. Inspired by summer sports days and country fetes - Field Day's very own village green will host stalls and activities throughout the daytime, ranging from sack-racing, to whack-the-rat, Bowling for Bacon and lots more to be announced. Come along, have fun, eat baked goods, and as the country saying goes - "be like an ant in the days of summer”…

Field Day is London’s quintessential festival with a line up that will be hard to find elsewhere.
