Walk into any teenage girls bedroom and you will usually find her walls plastered with posters of the popstars she wants to marry; usually with their perfectly coiffured hair and fake white smiles beaming right back at you.

So we at FemaleFirst have decided to count down the Top 10 Nineties pin up icons, who we were constantly cutting out of Smash Hits and Top Of The Pops magazines and carefully blue-tacking to our walls, school books and mirrors.

Number 5 - Ben Adams from A1

Ben Adams was born on 22 November 1981 and unless you lived in a closet from 1999 to 2001 you will remember him as 'the hot one' from boy band A1.

He has a clear interest in music from an early age as he was head chorister of the school choir and of St. Margaret's Choir of Westminster Abbey, after winning a scholarship; surprising then, that he states his influences as Michael Jackson and Tracy Chapman.

A1

A1 enjoyed brief success in the UK since their appearance with Be the First to Believe in 1999. Ben was joined in the group by Mark Read, Paul Marazzi and Norwegian Christian Ingebrigtsen.

Ben was always the favourite of the group, getting the most attention at shows and being the centre spread in so many teenage magazines. He, like so many lead singer's made up the band, with the others seemingly there to make up the numbers.

The future looked bright for Ben when he started out as A1 won the gong for "British Breakthrough Act" at the 2001 BRIT awards which was dutifully followed by a tour of Asia; where they were welcomed with open arms.

They found real success with their hit Take On Me in 2001 and it was after this that they started their sharp decline and within 12 months the band had announced their split.

Solo career

But Ben wasn't going to leave us ladies gagging for more and (thankfully) released a solo track; Sorry in April 2005. which did surprisingly well, reaching number 18 in the UK charts.

Keen to spread the love, Ben also turned his attention to writing and producing for other artists, some already established and up and coming acts both here and in the US.

He has his own recording studio situated in Battersea Park called Parkbench Studios and he is currently the creative director behind a new band, which has recently been confirmed and launched as a three piece girl band called Kissing Freddie. If you still want to see Ben singing and writhing around on stage, it might be worth checking out his solo project, What Jane Did Next, which is a far cry from his previous sound of cheesy boy band pop, it's actually described as; "pop with an electronic slap.

I know big blue eyes, brown curtains and a gaping smile might not be the 'in thing' at the moment, with most people liking the rugged Indie (homeless) look; but give me Ben Adams in a pair of jeans and a tight white t-shirt and you won't see me for days!
