Cher

Cher's 'Believe' has been named the best selling single by a female artist in the UK of all time, with sales of almost 1.79 million.

She spent seven weeks at the top of the Official Singles Chart back in 1998, and next year will mark 50 years since she first reached number one in the UK.

Just behind her comes Whitney Houston, selling 1.58 million copies of 'I Will Always Love You', and rounding out the top three is the one and only Britney Spears, who sold 1.53 million copies of her debut single '...Baby One More Time'.

Celine Dion follows with Titanic track 'My Heart Will Go On', and Adele comes in at five with 'Someone Like You'.

Jennifer Rush, Spice Girls, Celine Dion, Rihanna featuring Calvin Harris and All Saints feature from 6-10.

The biggest shock it would seem comes from the fact there isn't a single Madonna mention in the top 40 - her biggest UK seller 'Into The Groove' has managed sales to-date of 870,000.

It is in fact Lady Gaga, Adele, Rihanna and the Spice Girls who all feature the most in the top 40 with three tracks each included.

All data is from the Official Charts Company.
