‘All That I Have’ is the new single from Findlay Brown heralding his forthcoming second album ‘Love Will Find You’, produced by Duffy collaborator Bernard Butler and due for release early next year.

This single, produced by Beyond The Wizards Sleeve (Erol Alkan and Richard Norris, is a slice of retro pop which indicates a new musical direction for Findlay. ’All That I Have’ is accompanied by a Lord Skywave remix that takes the track to the indie dancefloor.

B-side ‘The Boy With The Flame’ is reminiscent of a classic 50’s ballad, with Findlay coming on like a modern day Buddy Holly. Finally there is a brilliant cover of Joe Smooth’s legendary club track ‘Promised Land’ which fully demonstrates Findlay’s rich, sonorous vocals as he adds a new dimension to the house classic. Remixer of the moment Pilooski completes the package with a rolling bass heavy mix that delves into cosmic disco.

Findlay’s debut album ‘Separated By The Sea’ was released in 2007 to huge critical acclaim – The Guardian called it “the most unlikely classic of the year” and gave it a rare 5* rating. The record was a series of love songs written to his girlfriend Marie Nielsen that featured introspective songwriting and highlighted Fin’s knack for simple vocal melodies and intensely personal lyrics.

Since then he has been busy writing his new record and the single ‘All That I Have’ is the first fruit of that labour. ‘Love Will Find You’ is a very different type of album. For a start it’s not folk influenced. He’s moved away from that and has been working on the craft of songwriting. “I wanted to work out what it was that made a classic song.”

Findlay explains. “So far I’ve written 12 demos for the new album and we’ve started working on recording them with a couple of different producers. ‘All That I Have’ was recorded with Beyond The Wizards Sleeve who remixed my ‘Losing the Will to Survive’ single so brilliantly last year for the 12” release on Peacefrog. The rest of the record will be produced by Bernard Butler.”

The biggest turning point for Findlay was when he broke his leg earlier this year, after the cab driver who dropped him home accidentally ran over him. “I’d already started going back and listening to a lot of records I’d grown up on. Elvis Presley, soul music, doo wop, Phil Spector, The Righteous Brothers and the like. I had an idea about making a modern record which was influenced by the songwriting of the late 50’s and early 60’s.

I was cooped up at my sister’s house in London for over a month with my broken leg and I just started writing, trying to work out what made a universally great song, like ‘Stand By Me’. In my first band Boedekka we’d written some fairly melodic pop songs but we covered up the songs with abstract weirdness and noise to try to avoid being too pop. ‘Separated by the Sea’ was all about one voice and a guitar but it gave me the confidence to write the sort of songs I loved. These new songs are the first part of that process.”
