After exploding onto the scene in 2005 The Maccabees have earned themselves the title of one of the hardest working bands around. Since releasing their highly anticipated debut album, ‘Colour It In’, The Maccabees have been busying themselves gigging furiously at festivals and embarking on a Bloc Party tour in the US. Now back on our fair shores, they get ready to release new single ‘Toothpaste Kisses’.It’s only fitting that ‘Toothpaste Kisses’ sees a release as one of the stand out tracks on the bands long player. The stripped down tender track shows a different side to the 5 piece, known for creating crowd frenzies with their up-tempo songs. At this years Glastonbury when introducing the forthcoming single lead singer Orlando Weeks declared this is a love song. No ordinary love song, ‘Toothpaste Kisses’ is the kind of stop you in your tracks, grab the one you love, love song. You only need to listen to the lyrics to see that these South London boys via Brighton are drawn by romantic intuition. Lay with me, I’ll lay with you. We’ll do the things lovers do.

Put the stars in our eyes. And with heart shaped bruises and late night kisses divine.

Coos Orlando, backed by a gentle acoustic guitar and fluttering string arrangements. I’ll win your heart with a (wolf whistle) he continues.

And The Maccabees do, every time.
