Grace Potter & the Nocturnals

Grace Potter & the Nocturnals

Named one of Rolling Stone’s Best New Bands of 2010, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals are set to release their self-titled UK debut album on August 2nd. I caught up with Grace for a little chat.

Hello there little monster, what are you up to?

Right now I'm riding on my tour bus somewhere between Pennsylvania and Vermont on our way to play a secret show in our hometown for CD release day.

So, tell me a bit about what you’re in the UK to promote?

Our record, (self titled) "Grace Potter & the Nocturnals" is coming out in August and we're just beginning what I hope to be a wild and fruitful tour of the UK, bringing the music to the people and melting faces wherever possible!

And if we didn’t have any clue as to who you were, what three words sum you up?

Enterprising.  Passionate.  Cheeky.

And as Jacko had the Moonwalk and Elvis had the snake hips, what do you have that makes you unique?

A Hammond B-3 Organ and a mini skirt!

Now, clearly we need to get to know each other more, so tell me an interesting fact about you that no-one else knows?

I just stopped biting my nails. A beloved habit that I told myself I would NEVER kick, but I did it and my hands look so much better.  (Plus I don't wake up with throbbing fingertips!)

What song do you wish you’d written?

"Lola" by The Kinks

If I were contemplating coming to your show or sitting at home and TV, how would you convince me to come out?

I'd promise to give you a blow job after the show...wait, you're a girl.  OK then I'd pimp one of my extremely good looking band mates on you. Nothing like oral sex to keep your fans coming back!

And if you were to take me on a trip to your hometown, what would be the first place we’d go?

I'd take you to "American Flatbread"  a restaurant with gorgeous outdoor fire pits that you stand beside while you drink beer and wait for your table (it's always at least a 30 min wait.) But it's worth it! The food is all local and organic and exceptionally crafted. I worked there all through my young adulthood. I even helped build the oven out of mud when I was 6.

Who was the last person you called / text and what for?

I called my parents to let them know that we are unexpectedly coming home for CD release day!

If you were a superhero, what would be your superpower?

Definitely flight. I have flying dreams all the time. They're always so real. Maybe I'll be reincarnated as a mosquito.

If you had to date a member of the same sex (or opposite sex if the case may be) who would it be? Mine would ALWAYS be Angelina Jolie.

I'm right with you on the Angelina Jolie thing! Although, for variety sake, I'd say Rose Byrne. She's so saucy and subtle. Loved her in Sophia Coppola's 'Marie Antoinette'.

What was the last thing you bought?

A ridiculously expensive pile of night creams and serums from a boutique skin care store. I never used to spend money on creams and such, but I'm almost 27 and I'm in a hard-living rock band...it's time to start fighting the clock!

Have you ever been arrested?

Yes. Several times. Most of them were wiped from my record because I was a minor and I did a lot of community service - which is why I am allowed into the UK!

Speaking of prison - if you were to send someone to prison for crimes against music, who would it be?

Honestly, no one. Music is a fucked up crazy business where anything goes. Sometimes the balance between music and marketing get all knocked outta wack.  But you know what? Bad music just makes me and my band look better.

What were you doing last night at 11?

We played to a crowd of 7,000 people in Lancaster, PA, and then me and the rest of the band spied on our guitarist Benny - who was attempting to canoodle with a drunk girl with big boobs and a Beagle.

Many thanks for your time and best of luck with the album.

...Thank You Ruth! I appreciate your awesome questions!!
