Komp’L

Monopolizing on his individuality  Divine ‘Komp'L’ Thomas has added a twist of style and a pinch of unconventional class to his persona which will garner him attention in all that he does. Armed with a barrage of punch lines and metaphors and exuding an agreeable sense of urbanity, this artist will definitely make you look.

What do you hope people get from your music?

Well I hope that people get that good vibe a certain feel good type feel I want them to feel a certain way and want to  go and throw on Komp'L if they’re sad, happy or excited. I want to just reach the masses

Being an artist in the music industry today is not an easy task, what do you think will allow you to succeed?

To succeed in this industry it'll just take hard work and dedication.  Staying humble I feel if you are able to humble yourself throughout the fortune and fame you will be alright but hard work and dedication also keep a solid foundation around you (family, close friends, etc.)

Is there anyone you would love to collaborate with and why?

Ahh man I have a list of people I would like to collaborate with but I really want to collab with Lupe fiasco and Joe Budden. Both are two artist that I admire and have respect for their craft. Lupe is very lyrical and complex and witty with his lines you will have to go back and listen to them a couple of times to catch them. With my music and lyrics I like to do that also nothing simple as far as punch lines; I want to make you think like Joe Budden. He makes you hit the rewind button and then days later you hear the same track and be like WOW I just caught that. So Lupe and Joe Budden

When selecting beats and producers to work with, what is it you look for?

I look for creativity in producers nothing to trendy I like to be different. I like a nice drum pattern hard kicks. If it’s a sample I don't want the obvious part of the sample used so that goes back to me saying be different that's all

Does the illegal downloading deter you in any way of pursuing this career?

Well no because your true fans will buy it legally anyway. So building that good fan base your true fans will support you is what you need to focus on

Do you think that more cohesive albums and projects may deter folks from downloading?

Yes I do think if an album is really good or an artist is really good it will cause people to go and buy it no matter how much downloading goes on. Real fans still support plain and simple Lil Wayne still sold a mill in a week so it’s possible.

You were featured in a Japanese fashion magazine, how did that happen?

Well it was a Japanese low riding/fashion mag and I was jus chilling down in Soho NY, shopping, and a photographer that works for the magazine said she liked my outfit and took a couple of shots. I answered a few questions boom I'm over in Japan in a mag l(laughs.)

What is so distinctive about your sense of style?

Well what I think sets me apart from everyone else is I take risks with clothing I treat my wardrobe like my music I try to standout and do what others aren’t doing you know. I’m into the whole European look, also the classic 60s 50s look boat shoes, rolled up jeans vintage glasses I like that. Also I might flip it wear a skinny tie with a cardigan and button wit slacks but have on some nice sneakers on like Air Jordans or Reebok pumps you know

What one article of clothing could you not leave the house without?

the one article besides my underwear which is a must it would have to be a hat whether its a fitted, fedora, skully or whatever I need something on my head.
