Sharon Rose

With great song writing and vocal abilities comes Sharon Rose, who has appeared on The X Factor and is now ready to take the world by storm with her skills.

We got the chance to chat to the rising star about her debut single, what music means to her and the experiences she's been through so far.

Has music always been a passion of yours?

Absolutely! My siblings and I got that unshakeable music gene. We grew up watching my mum and dad on stage and falling asleep at rehearsals so it was inevitable.

What are some of your earliest music-related memories?

My earliest music related memory is not my own actually. My mother once told me that she'd been singing lead in her church choir (heavily pregnant) on June 1st 1989 when she came off stage and got into initial labour pains. It may have been the music that called out to me because that very night I was popping out of my mama's belly.

How would you describe yourself as an artist?

As an artist I'd say that I am loud and opinionated, but also a byproduct of today's pop culture. Hopefully I can show all that in my music!

How was the experience of taking part in The X Factor?

I couldn't compare it to anything else. It felt like being in a portal into a completely different world. Tensions were high, morale was on a constant high and low, tears were always close by but I believe that most who have experienced it are stronger and better artists because of it.

Your debut single is 'Honest Mistake' - how was the process of writing this song?

Honestly? (Ha) It was quite hard. I hadn't been this open in my writing so I was a little afraid to say out loud what had been on my heart for so long. It was totally worth it though.

The music video's very unique in its approach - what led to the decision of creating it like this?

The idea for this came to mind when I was with one of my writing partners and we realised that everyone goes through the exact same thing, but not everyone gets the chance to say what they want in the heat of the moment. So we decided to give some people that chance.

What can we expect from future music of yours?

Definitely great things! I'm hoping to release a lot more in the next few months so keep an ear out.

How will you be spending the Christmas period?

Our family dresses up for Christmas each year, so I am expecting to spend this Christmas as Cinderella.

What's your favourite Christmas song?

Oh... definitely Santa Baby - the cover version that sounds like Marilyn Monroe. (Also because she and I share a birthday).

Where do you hope to be by Christmas next year?

Somewhere (substantial) on the charts would be amazing!
