Despite some bad experiences in the music industry, Starling are a band who are going to continue putting out music for their loyal fanbase, showcasing their incredible talent.

Group member Daniel James here speaks to Female First in a new and exclusive interview all about the future, past highlights and more - read on to find out what he had to say.

First off for those who may not yet have heard your music, how best would you describe Starling's sound?

Starling is like a four-piece rock band with an orchestra in our back pocket.

What is it about music and the industry that made you want to chase a career in it?

There's nothing about the industry that could make one want to be a part of it. All those that I know who work in the business with integrity are in it because of their love of the art form. For me it was never a choice, it was always just who I was. I've been working as a musician since I was in my early teens and never looked back, I doubt I'll ever leave it fully.

Your album's out on June 22, what kind of response have you seen to the new music so far?

We have had a great response so far to the single 'Dream Again' and we hope that we get loads more love for the next single 'Lights', which is out on June 15 with the album to follow a week after.

Can you tell us a little bit about the creative process behind that album?

We locked ourselves away for a year to focus on collecting the best and most honed songs we could possibly write. We then spent another year in the studio playing them together and working on the best way to 'wear' them as a band with the instruments we had in our hands. It was the best experience I've ever had and I'm really proud to have been a part of it.

What struggles have you faced through your career to-date?

Last year we had several people from the industry lie, steal and waste our time which was a huge blow as when you give birth to music and you put your heart and soul into it, the art becomes very vulnerable so when someone hurts you it cuts deep.

And what have been some of your biggest highlights?

Playing some fantasitc shows to some amazing crowds and also capturing some really special moments in the studio.

Do you have any definitive aims or goals for your career going forward?

I want to keep writing and recording for as long as my motor skills allow me. And my life goal is to reach my fullest potential whatever that looks like. I want to make the purest art with transparent honesty.

What plans do you have for the coming weeks and months that you can share some details about?

We are currently preparing for the launch of this album and we're planning a tour for the autumn, dates to be confirmed soon.
