Cher might be loaded already, but she’s hoping to give her bank balance a bigger boost by suing Universal Music Group in Los Angeles Superior Court for approximately £3.3 million in unpaid royalties.

Cher’s people have claimed that the label "engaged in wrongful tactics" to scam her out of momeny owed to her from the sale of Cher The Greatest Hits and the follow-up, The Very Best Of Cher in 2002.

The lawsuit alleges that the firm used "egregious" accounting practices to cheat the singer and her late ex-husband Sonny Bono's out of money owed to them, and speaking about the lawsuit, the star's lawyer Mark Passin said: "Universal is playing a game of catch-me-if-you-can with one of the most popular and iconic artists of all time.

"Unfortunately, record companies have learned over the years that they can increase their bottom line by underreporting royalties to artists. However, Universal's spokesperson Peter Lofrumento said: "The claims are meritless and we are confident that we will prevail in court."
