Doris Day

Screen legend Doris Day has laughed off claims she's losing her voice, insisting she just had "a frog in her throat" during a recent interview.

The 87-year-old called into a U.S. radio station earlier this month to celebrate her birthday, and revealed how the damp in her Carmel, California home was affecting her legendary singing voice.

She said, "I wish I could sing. I'm still hoarse. I've been hoarse for a year. I went to my throat specialist and he said I was clear, but I can't sing because of the hoarseness. It's the dampness in the area (Carmel)."

But Day is now backtracking on her comments, insisting her quotes have been taken out of context.

The Oscar-nominee tells Parade.com, "Wrong. Wrong. Wrong. I'm fine. No, I'm great. I had a frog in my throat. My message is just be kind to your animals... and don't worry about me. Oh, yes, don't buy the tabloids either."
