Foo Fighters pay tribute to fans crushed at festival

Benji Madden and the Foo Fighters have paid tribute to the music fans who died after a stage collapsed at a music festival on Thursday in Belgium.

Three people died and over 70 injured when storms brought one of the stages crashing down at the Pukklepop Festival during US band Smith Westerns set.

Now Good Charlotte's Madden, who was supposed to be performing on the Shelter Stage has paid tribute to the victims of the collapse on twitter: "Sad day here at Pukkelpop. One of our favorite festival to play (sic). Sad this happened today. Hearts are with the victims here today."

The Foo Fighters who were due to headline the Main Stage on the same night have marked the tragedy saying: "Our hearts go out to everyone affected by the tragic events at Pukkelpop."

Blink-182's Travis Barker wrote: "Really sad bout Pukkelpop... My heart goes out. Not supposed 2 happen at shows."

This tragedy happens only days after five fans were killed when a stage gave way at the Indiana State Fair and classic rocker Cheap Trick only just made it offstage at the Ottowa Bluefest in Canada on 17 July before sudden storms brought the rigging crashing to the floor.

The Flaming Lips were also caught out by storms that brought their stage down during a concert in Oklahoma earlier in the month.
