Former Iron Maiden singer Paul Di'Anno has been released from prison after serving just over two months of a nine month sentence for benefit fraud.

The 52-year-old rocker, who left the band in 1981, pleaded guilty to swindling the British government out of $67,500 by falsely claiming nerve damage to his back prevented him from working.

The singer, born Paul Andrews, was sentenced to nine months behind bars back in March (11), but he was released on Tuesday (24 May 11) after serving less than half his punishment.

And Di'Anno can't wait to get back onstage.

He tells MetalUnderground.com, "Back home again, and looking forward to (his tour) Running Free Again, and seeing you all in a few weeks."

Running Free Again refers to a new tour, which the singer has said he is planning to launch in the autumn.
