The Kings of Leon have thanked their fans for sticking with them as they were forced to play through the rain at the Isle of Wight festival on Friday (10Jun11).

The three-day music spectacular got off to a soggy start due to rain and thunderstorms in the U.K., but the rockers refused to let the stormy weather dampen their opening night performance.

The band thrilled the crowd by playing 21 songs, including their hits Sex on Fire, Molly's Chambers and Use Somebody.

Drummer Nathan Followill took to his Twitter.com page after the set to pay tribute to their devoted fans, writing, "Thank you Isle of Wight. Thanks for powering through the elements.

“Can't wait to come back. F**king awesome crowd. PS I'm still smiling."

Earlier in the day, British band Kaiser Chiefs also defied the downpour with an hour-long set on the main stage.

Frontman Ricky Wilson told revellers, "Who gives a s**t about a little bit of rain? It's only water. I'm made of water!”
