Sly Stone to spend further 60 days in rehab

Sly Stone has been told to stay in rehab for another 60 days as part of a plea deal relating to a drug possession charge.

The singer was taken into custody in April after LA police found cocaine in a car he was a passenger in during a search of the vehicle following a minor trafic violation stop.

He pleaded not guilty to possession in June, but changed the plea to no contest on Tuesday after making an agreement with prosecutors.

As part of the deal, Stone, who checked into rehab last montyh, must complete an extra 60 days in a treatment programme in order to have the case dismissed and avoid probation.

His lawyer tells TMZ.com: "We are very pleased with the outcome of this case."

The 68-year-old star has struggled with addictions to drink and drugs for years. He recently hit the headlines when it was discovered he was homeless and living out of a van.
