Singer TIM McGRAW is countersuing his record label after officials accused him of breaching his contract with them.

In a complaint filed earlier this month (May 11), Curb Records executives claimed the singer handed over master recordings for his latest album, Emotional Traffic, too closely to the completion of his 2009 release Southern Voice and, as a result, the songs were not "topical and new".

They accused him of using a "transparent tactic to attempt to fulfil his contractual recording commitment to Curb prematurely in breach of the recording agreement".

McGraw fired back in an angry statement, in which he accused label bosses of "holding the album hostage from country music fans", and now he is countersuing and seeking advance payment and recording-fund reimbursement, unspecified damages, and a jury trial.

The suit also asks that Emotional Traffic be deemed McGraw's last album due to the label and for McGraw to be "free to begin recording for himself or any other party as of July 23, 2011".
