Dame Vera Lynn

Yesterday on March 20, Dame Vera Lynn announced on her 97th birthday that she'll be celebrating 90 years in showbusiness by releasing a brand new album.

She was the first person to ever claim a UK number one single in 1940 with 'We'll Meet Again', and the first British artist to climb to the top of the American charts in 1952 with her hit 'Auf Wiedersehen, Sweetheart'.

To this day she remains the first and only artist over 90 to top album charts, and now she'll be releasing new record 'Vera Lynn: National Treasure - The Ultimate Collection'.

The album is to be released in June to honour the 70th anniversary of the World Ward II D-Day Landings on June 6, and will feature some of her most memorable hits as well as never-before-heard tracks that have recently been discovered by her daughter Virginia.

"I think it's wonderful that my songs are still enjoyed, especially if it encourages people to commemorate what happened seventy years ago. It's moving for me to relive those days, and humbling to know that people still think of me - after all, it was my simple duty to keep singing." says Dame Vera.

'Vera Lynn: National Treasure - The Ultimate Collection' is released June 2 through Decca Records.
