The 'Scars' hitmaker told thousands of fans in the crowd he was trying to hold back the "fear" of headlining, but he had no need to worry as the audience belted out every lyric of every one of his songs.

He said: "I'm doing everything I can to hold back the fear, it's my first time headlining a festival."

The singer/songwriter performed all of his hits including 'Let It Go', 'If You Ever Wanna Be In Love' and 'Craving'.

James then did his own version of 'Proud Mary' before ending the evening with his first ever hit, 'Hold Back The River'.

Getting everybody ready for James' finale was electronic rock legends Primal Scream.

They drew in a mixed crowd of both old and young and performed popular songs 'Damage', 'Loaded' and 'Come Together'.

Earlier in the day, rockers Sunset Sons played a surprise slot on the main stage at 11am and frontman Rory Williams was "blown away" that so many people turned up.

He exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "You can feel a bit deflated when you are on early and you are first on the bill, but with a crowd like that, we were blown away."

The weekend also saw Kaiser Chiefs play to one of the biggest crowds of the festival.

Frontman Ricky Wilson introduced new song 'Hole In My Soul' by confidently telling the crowd: "If you don't like it you are wrong."

The 'I Predict A Riot' hitmakers' set also included a blinding cover of The Who's 'Pinball Wizard'.

Their set included latest hit 'Parachute' from their forthcoming LP 'Stay Together', which had the crowd bouncing off their feet, and fan favourites 'Angry Mob', 'Ruby' and 'Oh My God'.

Meanwhile, Craig David was forced to cancel his appearance after getting stranded at Gatwick airport after his flight was cancelled.

The 'One More Time' hitmaker took to his Instagram account to apologise to his fans and said it's the first show in his 15-year career that he's had to miss.

He wrote: "I'm so sorry guys. Completely gutted about this one. Was so excited to perform @boardmasters & tried everything to get there after the plane was cancelled.

"Unfortunately it ended up being something out of my control. The schedule wasn't tight and everything would have been fine with ample time to get to the festival with time to spare when I arrived.

"If we had known it was going to be cancelled when I arrived at the airport in London in the afternoon there may have been a chance of getting there by other means, but being told by the airline that everything is on time, then one hour later "everything is fine" after they announced the 1st delay and then one hour later it's cancelled completely messed that plan right up.

"So sorry guys. Hope you still enjoyed the festival & i get the chance to perform next year. (sic)"

However, it meant that Kano stepped in and took the headline spot on the Unleashed Stage.

The weekend also saw Catfish And The Bottlemen, Blossoms, Chase & Status and many more entertain the sun-kissed crowd at Watergate Bay in Newquay, Cornwall, South West England.
