The indie band met the 'Getting Started' rocker, 29, backstage at TRNSMT festival in Scotland and would love to get into the studio with the Geordie rocker.

Frontman Sergio Pizzorno, 43, told The Sun newspaper's Bizarre column: “We hung out with him [Sam] and it was wild because he’s amazing.

“What he’s done so quickly, he’s the real deal. Him and his guitarist were going, ‘Man, that first album [2004's self-titled]!’. And I was like, ‘I’m a fan of yours!’"

Asked about collaborating, he added: “One day we hope to figure that out.”

Meanwhile, Sam's brother Liam previously quipped that the siblings would “make the Gallagher brothers look like Jedward” if they formed a band together.

The North Shields singer/songwriter - who released his debut EP 'Love Will...' last summer - admits he and the 'Seventeen Going Under' hitmaker are very "stubborn" and would likely bicker at each other like the arch-nemesis brothers, Liam and Noel, whose backstage bust-ups led to the demise of Oasis in 2009.

Liam, 38, told Bizarre in August: “We’ve done little bits and collaborations here and there, but it’s never been in the remit that we would be in a band or anything like that.

"We are both so involved in our own projects we wouldn’t have a moment to think about it.

"We’re too stubborn anyway, artistically there would be a battle for the big ideas.”
