The 22-year-old singer is devastated to have to pull out of the Jingle Ball in Atlanta, Georgia, and other performances in Connecticut, New York City, Florida and Washington D.C., but has been placed on "strict vocal rest" by doctors for the foreseeable future after falling ill.

She wrote on Instagram on Thursday (08.12.16): "I posted last week that I wasn't feeling great, but was powering through the best that I could.

"Unfortunately, I am not feeling any better and after leaving the doctor today, I have been put on strict vocal rest for the next two weeks.

"This absolutely kills me because I was so excited to see all of you on the road."

Meghan signed off her note by thanking her fans for their support and vowing to be back on stage as soon as possible.

She concluded: "I'm going to go home and rest so I can get back to see you all as soon as I can. I love you so much and am so appreciative of your love and support that you constantly show me. You mean everything to me. Can't wait to see you in 2017!"

The news comes a few days after the 'All About That Bass' singer was too ill to perform in Boston, Massachusetts, shortly after announcing the Grammy Award nominees on 'CBS This Morning'.

Just over a year ago, Meghan was forced to cancel a string of tour dates after suffering a vocal cord haemorrhage.
