Metallica have revealed their hopes to have influence Electronic Dance Music.

Thinking that their fast pace in the early 80s may have influenced the bass-heavy EDM we see today, the band - who have seen hits with 'Creeping Death' among others - have been notorious for pioneering the thrash metal genre.

Guitarist Kirk Hammett told NME.com: "I'm wondering if our music had an influence on that because at one point Metallica was the fastest band in the land, the fastest band in the music industry. In EDM the beats are really fast and I wonder if people have been influenced by us, the people making the dance music."

Bass player Robert Trujillo added he is a huge fan of the groundbreaking British electronic artist Squarepusher, aka Tom Jenkins.

He said: "I'm a big fan of Squarepusher, and I don't know if that even qualifies, but I like drum 'n' bass and I like when people push the envelope and incorporate other styles I love what [Squarepusher's] doing with jazz rhythms and funk rhythms and basslines, it adds kind of a punk presence too - that stuff is mad, insane."

Drummer Lars Ulrich was convinced the first time he saw the EDM scene's main figure, Skrillex, perform live.

He said: "I went and saw Skrillex at a festival in San Francisco a couple of years ago and was absolutely blown away, not just by what he was delivering but the whole experience and seeing 30,000 odd 14-year-old kids going f***ing ape***t."

Metallica's 'Through the Never' concert movie is released on October 4.
