The change.org campaign, which has been signed by 13,000 fans, has requested people support the induction of the heavy metal element called 'Lemmium' in honour of the late rocker, who died from cancer on December 28 aged 70.

'Lemmium' would be the chemical name given to one of four new heavy metal elements recently discovered by scientists.

The petition has a tribute page with a fitting message in the 'Ace of Spades' singer's memory, which hails Lemmy "a force of nature and the very essence of heavy metal".

Elsewhere, Lemmy - who died after a short battle with an aggressive cancer - will be remembered with a memorial service on Saturday (09.01.16), which will be live streamed on YouTube.

According to a Facebook statement from the band, the late rocker's family and friends will be invited to attend a ceremony at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery in Hollywood, but have asked fans not to attend and watch the service via a live stream from 3pm.

The band - including Phil Campbell and Mikkey Dee - stated: "We want you ALL to be a part of this memorial service. So wherever you are, PLEASE get together and watch with fellow Motörheadbangers and friends. GO to your favourite bar, or your favourite club, make sure they have access to an internet connection and toast along with us. Or simply invite your pals around and celebrate Lemm's life at home. They added: "Whatever your venue, and however you can, let's be sure to gather globally on Saturday 9th and celebrate the life of our dear friend and irreplaceable icon."
