Member Niall Horan broke the news to fans on his Twitter account, writing: "Album is mastered and ready to go .... can't wait for you to hear it".

The record will be the first collection of songs released since Zayn Malik left the band in March earlier this year, and will also be their last album before going on hiatus next year.

Currently on the final leg of their On The Road Again Tour, the group have six huge consecutive dates scheduled in at London's O2 arena, with their final gig in the British capital on September 30.

"London shows have been amazing so far, thank you to everyone who has come to say hello. Looking forward to prancing around again tonight," wrote Harry Styles on his Twitter account.

Meanwhile, Little Mix member Jade Thirlwall recently admitted the girl group "definitely" want to collaborate with One Direction at one point.

She explained: "We saw Liam [Payne] at the iTunes gig and he said he wanted to write with us for the next album, so that would be good."
