Ed Sheeran insists he doesn't have "any bitterness" towards the subject of his song 'Don't'.

The 23-year-old crooner sings of a cheating partner on the scathing track, which appears on his hit album 'x', but he doesn't hold on to resentment or ill will as he's moved on since writing the song a year ago.

Quizzed about the song's subject, Ed told Capital FM: "They don't really [know] though, people have assumptions. With that track, I only felt that way for a week and then I made my peace with it and got on with it.

"But it just happened that that song was alright and I wanted to put it on the album. But I don't have any bitterness towards that situation at all. I literally got over it within the week and the song just stuck around.

"I know people hear the song and it might be fresh because it's the first time they've heard it but I think all parties involved have just moved on. It's a year on from writing the song and it was a long time ago."

Ed previously confirmed 'Don't' is about a high-profile celebrity ex and he even warned his former lover about the song's imminent release.

He said: "I just said, 'Just so you know, there is a song.' And they said, 'Expected that.' Cause of the situation, you know, I didn't lie at all. It's 100 per cent true."
