Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga will release her third single, Paparazzi, on 6 July 2009, backed with remixes by Stuart Price and Filthy Dukes, amongst others. “It’s about everyone’s obsession with that idea of wooing the paparazzi and wanting fame,” she explains. “It’s not to be taken completely seriously. It’s also about wanting a guy to love you and the struggle of whether you can have success or love, or both.”

If anyone is qualified to write a song about the sudden onset of fame, it’s Lady Gaga. Since crash-landing at the top of the charts with her first two singles and her debut album, the New Yorker has moved from the underground to the pop pages to the front pages with barely a pause for breath. It’s a rise that is explicitly addressed in the stunning Jonas Akerlund–directed video for Paparazzi, which will make its worldwide debut on Channel 4 at midnight on Wednesday 3 June.

This summer, Lady Gaga will return to the UK with a string of festival performances, high profile guest appearances with Take That, and her first headline shows, in Manchester and London, tickets for which sold out within 10 minutes of being released earlier this month.

Lady Gaga’s debut single Just Dance simultaneously became the first new number one of 2009 in the UK and US, was nominated for a Grammy, and is this country’s biggest single of the year so far with more than 650,000 copies sold. Its successor Poker Face is hot on its heels: climbing to the top of the UK single charts on 22 March, it has sold in excess of 630,000 copies to date. Just Dance, Poker Face and Paparazzi feature on Lady Gaga's debut album The Fame, which entered the UK top three on its release in January and climbed to the top spot on 5 April; it has now been certified Platinum.

Paparazzi is released on 6 July
