The Love Story hitmaker admits her songs are laced with feelings of rejection from her days at high school in Nashville, Tennessee.
And despite recently being linked to Twilight hunk Taylor Lautner, the singer - who turned 20 on Sunday - still remembers her bad luck with boys during her formative years.
She says, "I used to say I had a condition called girl-next-door-itis. I'd always be really good friends with the guy and then he'd ask me what to get his girlfriend for Valentine's Day and I'd hide my feelings and smile and give him great ideas."
