Rapper Corey Miller faces a mandatory life sentence after a jury in New Orleans, Louisiana found him guilty of second-degree murder.

Miller, formerly known as C-Murder, had been charged with killing a teenager in a New Orleans nightclub in 2002.

He was convicted in 2003 and handed a life sentence, but it was overturned in 2006 after he had spent three years in a Louisiana prison. A new trial was granted based on claims prosecutors improperly withheld criminal background information on three of their witnesses.

The second round of court proceedings started last week, with the jury retiring to decide its verdict on Monday, but after just three hours of deliberating, the panel of seven women and five men returned to the courtroom to tell Judge Hans Liljebery that they had failed to come to a decision and were deadlocked over a verdict.

The judge ordered the jury back into deliberation, insisting they should spend more time discussing the case. On Tuesday, the jury handed down a second guilty verdict.

A defence motion for a mistrial was denied by the judge.
