Jim Jones will stand trial this June in relation to charges of assault stemming from a December brawl with Ne-Yo's manager.

The Diplomats crewmember is facing a count of misdemeanour assault after clashing with Jayvon Smith on Christmas Eve at a Louis Vuitton store in New York.

Jones, who turned down a plea deal last month, made a brief appearance in a Manhattan court on Tuesday, when a judge scheduled his trial for 4 June .

The rapper's lawyer, Scott Leemon, insists his client is ready to face a judge to prove he's not guilty. Leemon tells FemaleFirst, "I always listen (to plea deals) but at this point we're preparing for trial."

Smith has since filed a $7 million (£4.8 million) civil suit against Jones for damages.
