Rap newcomer Drake has been in negotiations with reclusive soul singer Sade and he has high hopes for a planned collaboration.

Drake's debut album has become one of hip-hop's most anticipated releases for 2010 following the star's double Grammy nod for his hit single ‘Best I Ever Had’ last week.

The rapper recently confessed he is eyeing a rare duet with Sade, telling MTV News, "I had a wish list for my managers of everybody I wanted involved (in the album) that stem beyond hip-hop. I'm trying to pull it all together. I'm really trying to work with Sade."

The ‘Smooth Operator’ singer is preparing to release her first album in 10 years on St. Valentine's Day and Drake admits his dream of collaboration is slowly turning into a reality.

He tells FemaleFirst, "There's conversations going on, I haven't spoken to her personally yet but my management is talking to hers and it's looking more yes than no right now, so I'm hoping we can get it done." But Drake insists the duet will only go ahead if the song is perfect for both artists.

He says, "I think the most important thing, aside from obviously agreeing to do it in the first place, is finding the right record for both of us and just making sure it's true to her brand and also true to mine, but I don't think it'll be that hard. We both make great music that you can lose yourself in and I think if we come together and do it right, it could be a legendary moment so I'm excited about that."

Drake’s ‘Best I Ever Had’ will compete for the Best Rap Solo Performance and Best Rap Song prizes at the 2010 Grammy Awards, which will take place in Los Angeles on 31 January.
