Dre Loses Chronic Battle

Legendary rapper/producer Dr. Dre has lost a legal battle against the owners of Death Row Records over a reissued version of his iconic album The Chronic.

Dre, real name Andre Young, took label bosses to court in February (10), alleging a modified version of the 1992 classic, now titled The Chronic Re-Lit, was in violation of trademark and publicity law.

He accused Death Row owners of failing to ask for his permission before releasing the disc and falsely suggesting he endorsed the new album by placing his name and likeness on the CD cover art.

But a California judge has dismissed Dre's claims. The case was thrown out of court earlier this week (begs07Jun10), according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Dre left Death Row Records in 1996.

The label was acquired by company executives at WIDEawake from bankrupt founder Marion 'Suge' Knight last year (09).
