Wyclef Jean has renewed calls for donations to aid efforts in Haiti on the one-year anniversary of the earthquake which devastated the country last year.

The Fugees star threw himself into charity work in his home nation following the disaster on 12 January, 2010, and even attempted to run for president at the country's elections in a bid to help improve life for residents.

His political run was denied, but he has continued working with his Yele Haiti foundation to help survivors cope in the aftermath of the crisis, and he returned to the country this week to mark a year since the quake.

Jean held a minute's silence at the time the earthquake struck and has urged fans not to stop donating to help the victims. In a series of posts on Twitter.com, he writes, "Go on yele.org and be the judge 4 yourself, and you will see why you should continue to donate to Yele... 1 year since the Haiti EQ (earthquake). Let's not forget about them now. It's a non profit org. 1 year ago I was on the ground providing immediate relief."

He later added, "Thank you for your moment of silence for Haiti."
