22 - Plastik

Norway four-piece 22 look set to make a huge impact on the rock scene with their exciting debut EP.

From the moment the title track kicks in, the riffs grab you as the, at times, harmonious vocals lead you through what ends up being almost a hybrid of metal and funk.

The vocals are smooth, providing a unique sound that incorporates hints of Muse, System of A Down and even someone like 30 Seconds To Mars.

It's an interesting style that combines everything good and exciting about rock music as a wider genre, making for a refreshing sound.

When 22 are heavy, they really rip away at you, but the tracks weave and wind their way through diverse journies to constantly keep you guessing.

Even by the EP's second track, it's hard to define 22 as a band, or characterise Plastik as an EP.

It's got a big rock sound, with stunning self-production, and the vocals carry a hint of Matt Bellamy.

This is loud, it's fresh and definitely sounds new.

22 prove on tracks like 'Gotodo' and 'Mind Vs. Mind' that they have the songs to make themselves a huge name, and they will no doubt be a sought-after band on next summer's festival circuit.

The EP ends with 'Power Is So Yesterday', showing an electro influence and further diversity to this band's talent.

It's an epic end to a stunning debut EP that sounds like the work of polished veterans.

With a debut full-length later this year, 22 are a band to keep an eye on and get to know before it becomes another bandwagon.
