Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga

Last night saw Lady Gaga, The Enemy, N-Dubz and VV Brown all perform for free at Manchester Apollo as they entertained thousands of volunteers all in the name of charity.

Hosted by the very gorgeous Alex Zane (who looks so much tastier in ‘real-life’) the Apollo was packed full of people who had given up four hours of their time to help out with a community project in their area, and in return they got an epic night out for free.

Perhaps one of the smoothest running gigs I’ve ever been to, there was never any time when fans had nothing to watch, because as the stage was being altered after each artist, a funky little DJ climbed onto this massive podium and played some ‘bangin’ tunes whilst Alex Zane twittered on about the charity.

VV Brown looked stunning as ever and wowed the crowd with a couple of tracks, including my current favourite, Shark In The Water. Looking ever so foxy and proving that she has one of the best voices around at the moment, VV managed to whip the crowd into a frenzy in time for N-Dubz.

Blasting onto stage, the crowd went crazy for Dappy, Tulisa and Fazer who made me feel like I should be a black man pretending to drive a car - you know the dance move im talking about! And although it was a little bit on the loud side for my tender ears, the crowd loved it, especially when Tinchy Strider rolled onto stage to join th band in Number One, - the single that propelled them into the limelight.

After that came the obligatory rock band - it was called Orange Rockcorps after all - in the form of the hottest new rock band on the scene, The Enemy. I was quite shocked to see that many of the fans that were crammed into the Apollo knew a few of The Enemy’s songs, considering the line-up was mainly pop music and the band have only recently been getting loads of radio overage.

Acting very much like their new celeb best mates in Oasis, the Enemy has unrivalled stage presence, despite there only being three of them on stage and the fact that most people wanted their set to be over so they could see what the hell Lady Gaga was wearing.

Although Lady Gaga did perform in costumes we’ve already seen, she still felt the need to come on stage under cover of what looked like coffin lids crossed with cut up Dalek costumes from a Dr Who wardrobe… quite what the need for them were I don’t know, and even more cheese-tastic was when the men started moving them around to create some sort of ‘effect’ which was ruined by the fact that you could clearly see their trainers out of the bottom!

He set was, as you’d expect, quite interesting, with costume changes galore whilst a weird story video played in the background, that I couldn’t really understand due to the terrible audio fizzing out her words. Although to her credit, her vocals when she was actually singing did sound pretty good, although her improvised dancing wasn’t overly great, but then again when you’re stood on stage in barley any clothes, I don’t really think your dancing is what people are scrutinising.

Overall, this was a great gig for a great cause, and if more people were willing to get involved in incentives like this, then maybe the UK would learn to combine; Music, fashion and charity… just like Lady Gaga.
