Hot off the heels of the release of Black Hats’ debut single Kick In The Doors they are back with their new record Austerity For The Hoi Polloi, a collection of six brand new tracks.

They hinted as to what they are all about with their debut EP Magnets and since that release they have been winning over fans left right and centre.

And it’s not hard to see why as Austerity For The Hoi Polloi is a collection of up-beat and incredibly infectious indie/rock tracks.

There is an incredibly deep and dark bass that exists on the opening track You Make Us What We Are and this contrasted fabulously with the energy and infective nature of this track.

You Make Us What We Are is an instant introduction to what the Black Hats are all about; easy listening and toe-tapping indie/rock music.

Death By Record has a more punky feel to it and it is great to see the band experiment with different sounds instead of releasing a collection of tracks that all sound incredibly similar.

Once again there is a catchy beat to the track and you can’t help but get swept away with the energy of the track.

There is more of an electronic feel to Blood And Space and Impossible View; this is not a run of the mill indie track.

While electronica doesn’t necessarily go hand in hand with indie/rock it is incredibly subtle and just adds another dimension to both tracks rather than taking over to be the main sound.

Fall Out and Kick In The Doors are the final two tracks on the album and they are both really guitar driven tracks that are just as catchy as the rest of the record.

This guitar based trio have delivered a collection of really great tracks that are a great introduction to them and what they are all about - it would have been great to have had a few more tracks though.

Black Hats have a bright future ahead of them and it will be exciting to see what they do next.
