Cornershop are to release their eighth album on May 14th, their third in the past 4 years. ‘Urban Turban’ is a funky array of strangeness. A roller-coaster of electronic vibes and easy listening.

The album opener ‘What Did the Hippie Have in His Bag’ is definitely the highlight of the album due to its weird and silly nature; on from there the album is contemporary, sleek and very unique.

‘Milkin’ It’ is a chilled out and stylish tune which was released as a single in April. It uses Singh’s soothing voice over the flow of melodic electronica. This is followed on by ‘Concrete, Concrete’, a more up-tempo, jazzy number. French songstress Celeste provides vocals on the beautiful track ‘Non-Stop Radio.’

‘Inspector Bamba Sing’s Lament’ and ‘Beacon Radio 303’ revert back to Singh’s Indian roots and allows the album to visit yet another genre of music.

Urban Turban is a real mixed bag of delight, an uplifting assortment of funk, folk and foolishness
