This week Mystery Jets are back with their fourth studio album, their first since the release of Serotonin back in 2010.

The album marks the first time that they recorded in America as the band team up with Dan Carey to produce - and you can tell by the sound of the album.

The band delivered more of an eighties feel in their first two albums but this time around there is a distinct American influence throughout the whole of this great album.

Radlands is the opening track on the album this is a slow and rather understated number and shows off immediately just how far the band have matured.

You Had Me At Hello is another mournful sounding track and it really is one of the best tracks on the record.  The band seems to have left behind all of the musical excesses that have existed on their songs before in favour of simple and straightforward sounding music.

And it works so well, they really do sound like a completely different band and it’s great to seem them exploring new sounds.

Radlands is an album that is perhaps a little rockier than previous outings as they move away from the pop/rock sound of previous records.

Having said that it’s not an in your face rock sound in fact I found it to be quite an understated album.

The Ballad of Emmerson Lonestar and Luminescense are the most acoustic tracks on the album which really do show off the great tone of Blaine Harrison’s vocals.

You do get the feel that this album sound better live than it does on as a record as the album is missing that one big rousing track that everyone remembers.

Having said that the song-writing is far more accomplished than anything that we have seen from the band before.

Radlands is an album that will hold your attention for the full eleven tracks but it will not linger long in the memory.
