Waves Of Fury made quite an impression when they released their EP Businessman’s Guide To Witchcraft and now the band is back with their debut album Thirst.

And it looks like the band will continue to make waves (forgive the pun) with this record as it is an energetic blend of punk, soul and rock and roll.

Death Of A Vampire is the opening track on the record does have some gothic undertones to it but it s a track that is brimming with energy.

The horn section does come as a bit of a surprise but actually it is a great addition to the song. Carter Sharp has an interesting vocal as it is powerful and haunting but I really do struggle understanding just what he is saying.

Carter shows off the real power of his voice on I Don’t Know What To Make Of Your Fucked Up Friends and the verses are almost like the calm before the storm of the chorus.

Killer Inside Me is the moist powerful track on the record as this is a song about the demons inside of us. Again lyrically this is a track that is quite dark and yet the guitars in particular on this track give it an energy and uplifting sound that you would not expect.

You can really hear that this album has been heavily influenced by gothic writers such as Edgar Allan Poe and Saul Bellow while there are elements of Motown as well as the Sex Pistols in the music.

There is a dark undercurrent to this album that works really well as it is juxtaposed with the energy that exists on every track.

Thirst is an album that is real mixture of styles, influences and genres and the band are able to pull all that together to make a bold record.

However Carter’s vocal style will not be to everyone’s tastes and while I can appreciate what the band have achieved with this record it really is not for me.
