Mike Mangini
MIKE MANGINI is now the new drummer for heavy rocker group DREAM THEATRE. The new addition to the band came after Mike Portnoy's sudden departure last summer.
Mangini had to endure a 3 day audition in New York to secure a place in the band.
During the 3 day period the band talked to 7 of the worlds top drummers, watched them perform and got to know them personally, in the hope of finding the perfect accompaniment to their prog-rock sound.
Dream Theatre have been extremely sensitive about the choosing of their new member, explaining that it is not only a monumental decision for them but also a critical moment for Dream Theatre fans around the world.
Guitarist John Pretucci spoke of his excitement of working with Mike Mangini, He gushed: "Not only is he a beast of a drummer but he is also an incredible person who understands our values as a band."
He then went on to speak about his heartache of the departure of his life long friend and band mate Mike Portnoy "It came as a truly unexpected and heat breaking blow but when you work with Mike, and see what a powerhouse he is, you realise he is our silver lining to what was the biggest challenge of our musical lives"
Mangini is now in the studio with the band recording their new album and will join them on tour in July.
