Matthew Broderick has admitted he is nervous about becoming a dad to surrogate twins.

The actor appeared on America's The Late Show on Friday night to talk about the twin daughters he and wife Sarah Jessica Parker are expecting. Matthew told host David Letterman: "I'm ready... (but) I'm nervous just even thinking about it.

"I've asked people, 'What's it like to have twins?' One father said, 'I don't recommend it,' but the rest have been very positive."

Matthew added that the couple's six-year-old son James Wilkie is "pretty excited" and planning to shop for his unborn baby sisters' toys: "He said, 'We have to get a lot of princess toys.'"

Meanwhile Sarah Jessica's Sex and the City co-star Mario Cantone has revealed he thinks she will be the perfect mum to the girls as James Wilkie is perfect.

Mario who played Anthony Marentino in the hit U.S. show, insists the actress has nothing to worry about, and heaps praise on her and Broderick's parental achievements so far.

He says, "That kid James Wilkie is so cute and so brilliant and so smart and he's got such a wit about him. I only spent a little time with him but I fell in love with the kid. I just think he's something else. He's like a smart, witty, appropriate child and that's rare."

Mario also said that he is adamant Parker has always harboured dreams of having girls. He added: "She wanted girls I'm sure and I think it's good. And I also think if you're going to have one child, you should have another. The only child thing is a tough thing."
