Apparently gaining weight during pregnancy is the reason the spouses don't fancy them anymore

New research from the UK’s leading discount website has revealed that almost a tenth of men found their partner less attractive after the birth of their first child; a third of which said it was because their spouse is yet to lose the weight she gained during pregnancy.

As part of ongoing research into the parenting habits of Britons, the UK’s leading discount website has conducted a study of 1,183 fathers across the UK to discover more about how men feel about their partner post-pregnancy; all of whom had become fathers within the past 18 months.

The study, conducted by www.MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, initially asked the respondents if they still found their partner as attractive after the birth of their first child, to which almost a tenth said ‘No’.

In a bid to investigate the matter further, the 8 per cent of respondents who stated that they found their partner less attractive after the birth of their first child where asked why they felt this way. According to the research more than a third said it was because their partner hadn’t lost the weight gained throughout their pregnancy.

A further fifth of the men who stated that they found their partner less attractive after the birth of their first child said that it was because their partner had ‘stopped caring’ about her appearance. A further 2 per cent of the respondents cited that due to ‘witnessing a bad labour’, they no longer found their partner as attractive as they did prior to the birth of their first child.

Of the men who admitted to finding their partner less attractive after the birth of their first child, just 14 per cent said that they had told their spouse how they felt. The remaining 86 per cent have left their partner unaware of their feelings towards their appearance.

Of the total number of respondents polled, more than half admitted to wanting sex with their partner less than they did prior to the birth of their first child. An additional 3 per cent said that they hadn’t wanted sex with their partner ‘at all’ since the birth of their child.

Mark Pearson, Chairman of MyVoucherCodes.co.uk said the following about the findings: “I was surprised to see that a tenth of men admit to finding their partner less attractive after the birth of their first child. Whilst pregnancy and childbirth do undoubtedly affect a woman, it’s important that these changes aren’t seen as negative by men, as any changes are all part of the process of becoming a parent and things should get back to normal after childbirth. I was even more surprised to see that such a small percentage of the men have told their spouse; whilst it could be upsetting , if it’s having an effect on a relationship, feelings like this are something that a couple should sensitively discuss with an aim of rectifying.”

He continued: “Perhaps the men who are finding that their partner has less time to treat herself after childbirth should surprise her. Send her off to the spa for a day and then treat her to a romantic meal in the evening, this will be a great excuse for her to pamper herself and may also help to re-light that flame. If all this seems as though it is too expensive, sight such as MyVoucherCodes.co.uk frequently have great discounts that will help this treat be more affordable.”
