Parenting News: Push Presents are the New Craze Among Pregnant Couples

Push presents are the latest craze among pregnant British couples and it’s costing the country millions.

A push present is a present given to a woman by her partner after she has given birth to their new child.

A massive 43 per cent of new mums expect to receive a push present for their efforts and new dads will spend an average of £129.83 on the gift.

It is rumoured that Prince William will be buckling to the trend and gifting Kate with regel jewellery after giving birth to their son or daughter.

The trend is already big in America and 3 million UK mums have been lucky enough to take advantage of it here.

It has already cost UK dads £109m and is set to cost them a lot more if the 43 per cent of mums to be get their way!

Jewellery was voted a popular gift, with 15 per cent of women saying it would be their preference. A diamond ring was named the most wanted piece of jewellery.

The most popular gift, however, was the traditional bunch of flowers – something over a third of women expected.

Following on from flowers, a fifth of women would appreciate a spa break after the birth.

Anita Naik, Consumer Editor at VoucherCodes.co.uk, who conducted the research, says, “The trend for giving push presents has been a big deal in the US for the past few years.

“Like the prom and the baby shower before it, Brits are starting to adopt the tradition as their own and now it seems to have the Royal seal of approval there’s no doubt more women than ever will be expecting a push gift.

“That said, welcoming a new arrival to your family can place a big strain on your finances which is why it’s more important than ever to ensure you’re making your money work as hard possible.

“Whether new dads decide their partner deserves a relaxing day at a spa, or a bit of sparkle, there are a huge range of discounts available online for jewellery, holidays, experience days and more.”
