An old Avon campaign

An old Avon campaign

New research reveals that the cost of moving house has risen to nearly £9,000 over the past decade, as the housing market continues to inflate.

Independent Avon Sales Leaders are reporting a growing number of new recruits citing saving for property – whether it’s to get their foot on the ladder, upgrade their home or to make enhancements to a current property:

Debbie Davies, a sales leader, explains: ”Over the past few years, I’ve noticed an increasing number of new recruits – I’d say around 8-10 per cent over the last month – who are starting their own Avon businesses to help finance the purchase of a new home.

"Many are already working full time but want to supplement their incomes.  By saving that little bit extra every month, they’re able to realise their goal much sooner than by just working one job.

"Some have even found that their Avon businesses have been profitable enough that they’re able to cut back their hours at their old jobs and devote themselves to their growing Avon businesses.”

Zoe Shaw from Northampton, is a 23 year old Avon Representative who decided to join the company as a way to save money for a deposit for her first home. Upon leaving school, she felt that Avon could be a career viable option after witnessing her mother, who is also an Avon Sales Leader, successfully running her own business.

When Zoe was 21 she used her Avon earnings to successfully take a step on to the property ladder. She was able to purchase a three bedroom house with her sister, Amy (aged 25), who is also an Avon Sales Leader.

Zoe says: ‘We continually put away the money we generated and combined our savings to enable us to afford to pay for the deposit for our first home. Now we use the extra income Avon gives us to cover the cost of our mortgage and paying the bills.’

Erena Shaw started working as an Avon Representative when she was 18, originally just for pocket money.

Once she started having children she realised she couldn't continue her career in the pub industry so she resigned, and turned back to her Avon business.  She started working as a Representative again to earn a little extra money but didn’t realise how big it would grow and never dreamed she would one day be one of the top eight Sales Leaders in the country.

Her business has gone from strength to strength and through her businesses success Erena managed to save up enough money to put a deposit down in their first family home.
