Holby City

Connie arrives at Holby, fired up and ready to take on Ric. She wastes no time in asking him why he didn’t hand his notice in and he is forced to admit that he wants to stay in the job.

Connie wonders when Ric will leave but when he doesn’t commit she tells him that he’s going to have a battle for the job on his hands. Connie walks off planning to get the position that she feels should rightfully be hers while Ric smiles to himself - he’s more determined than ever to show the merit of his new campaign.

Faye watches Jac as she eats her morning breakfast. Jac is stuffing her face with food. Joseph is shaken from his reverie by Faye who’s convinced that Jac is hiding an ever increasing tummy. Its not like her to eat so much and Faye thinks she might be pregnant. Joseph turns pale and quickly changes the subject. He has to do something about Jac once and for all – she needs to go.

Overweight Frankie arrives back at Holby. He sits in a chair but when he stands up to say hello to Ric the chair comes with him – he’s stuck and his father laughs. Frankie heads off, clearly upset and Ric goes to find him. Frankie has clearly had enough, he is fed-up of the fat jokes and being laughed at and most of all he’s fed-up of looking at himself in the mirror. Ric is clearly moved by Frankie’s plight and tries to reassure him that he is on the road to recovery with his new diet and exercise plan. Ric pulls out a leaflet for the health program. It is only a rough draft but Frankie is featured heavily in it. Frankie is keen to lose weight and so he agrees to take part.

Joseph finds a quiet corner and pulls up a number on his mobile to ask a professor he knows if he can do Joseph a favour…

Joseph heads into theatre in high spirits and Jac can’t help but notice. Toying with Joseph, she feigns a bout of nausea but that doesn’t phase him. Jac wonders why but then receives a call from a professor who wants to talk to her. Jac’s surprised, what is an eminent cardio professor calling her for?

Frankie’s father, Mr Moore, suggests that the two of them go down for cakes and coffee. Ric steps in but Mr Moore just can’t get his head around why Frankie needs to be on a diet. Ric tells him that his sone has an obesity problem and Frankie is battling with diabetes. His health is going to continue to deteriorate unless he changes his life now. Mr Moore reckons his son is fine. He may be a bit on the tubby side but it’s never done him any harm. Frankie is at his wits end, as his dad can’s see that he doesn’t want to live like this anymore but at the same time he doesn’t want to upset him either. His father’s influence makes it impossible to diet in his household.

Meanwhile, Jac is talking on the phone to the professor. She is clearly excited about the conversation. ‘I’ll definitely consider it, sounds like a great opportunity’ says Jac. Jac can’t help but gloat to Joseph and he’s pleased for her. His plan is working until Jac finds out that Joseph has put her up for the position. She confronts him and Joseph, getting desperate, hands over a cheque to keep her quiet.

Connie and Michael get wind of Ric’s new program. Connie is desperate to steal his thunder and approaches Frankie. She says that it is in his best interest to have a gastric band fitted privately. Frankie has no motivation to lose the weight and Connie and Michael believe this might be the only way of him becoming a healthier person.

Daisha walks up and down the wards with Baby Joe, he still won’t stop crying. Rachel can see that there’s something wrong with him, he’s hot and doesn’t look that well. It transpires that he has bronquilitis. Daisha feels stupid that she didn’t notice it sooner and Mark comforts her. A lot of babies get it and it’s not her fault, he says but Daisha feels responsible.

Ric finds out what Connie has said to Frankie and can’t believe she would even suggest something like that to him. They can’t sanction the operation on someone so young. Mr Moore returns and Frankie tells him he wants to go ahead with a gastric band. Mr Moore can see that Frankie really wants to change and seems to be please for him. Ric can’t believe all his hard work is going down the drain because of Connie’s interference.

Daisha is ankle deep in cases when she gets a phone call from the crèche. Baby Joe won’t stop crying, can she come down? Daisha tells Linden that she’ll be back in a minute but Linden is getting a little tense.

Later on Joseph finds a notice on the staff pin-board. ‘Jac invites team- Holby for a celebratory drink in the bar, she’s got an announcement to make’. ‘I told you’ says Faye, ‘She is going to tell everyone’. A worried Joseph hopes that it is not a baby announcement.

Ric is still keen to help Frankie and explains the downsides of the gastric band operation. He explains that it’s not an easy fix, it is a life changing operation. Ric tries to change Frankie’s mind but he’s decided he is going to have the operation. Connie has clearly won this round.
