Countess of Wessex

Countess of Wessex

Britain's Countess of Wessex arrived in India yesterday (18.09.13) in support of a blind charity.

Sophie, the wife of Prince Edward, is spending a week in Kolkata as part of a mission for the sight-saving charity, Orbis, which aims to restore the sight to blind, where she will meet patients undergoing potentially a life-changing operation.

The countess visited a partner hospital yesterday where she met pre and post operative patients and found out information from local trainees, before going on to attend a medical training symposium where she gave a heart-felt speech.

The blonde beauty will visit the charity's Flying Eye Hospital today (19.09.13), which is a converted DC-10 plane that flies into poverty-stricken areas and performs surgery and teaches international volunteers and local doctors how to perform the procedure to save people from going blind.

She will also watch cataract surgery and try a cataract surgery simulator before going on to Qatar where she will meet wealthy donors supporting the charity in both India and Bangladesh.
