The Duchess of Cambridge

Britain's Duchess of Cambridge is in the early stages of planning an official trip to New York as she recovers from severe morning sickness.

The Duchess - who was known as Kate Middleton prior to her marriage to Prince William - has been forced to cancel a number of her planned engagements in recent weeks due to her illness, but she now appears to be on the mend.

A royal source revealed to the Daily Mirror newspaper: "This trip is in the early planning phase but it's a clear sign that she is on the mend.

"However, if there is any suggestion that the Duchess isn't well, it will be cancelled immediately."

It's been speculated that the planned trip will see the Duchess visit a number of the city's most famous landmarks, including a trip to Ground Zero, the sight of the terrorist attacks in 2001.

The 32-year-old will be joined on the visit by her husband Prince William, also 32. However, Prince George will not travel with them.

Last month, the Duchess was forced to scrap plans to visit Malta due to her morning sickness.

She had planned to visit the island to mark the anniversary of its independence.
