The 33-year-old royal has rarely worn a tiara since marrying Prince William in 2011, but will apparently break away from her usual style for the visit of the president and his wife Peng Liyuan, according to Hello! magazine.

Although her attendance has not been confirmed by officials at the palace, it's widely thought she will wear the tiara for what promises to be an extravagant event.

Speculation about the Duchess' attendance comes shortly after it was reported she missed a friend's wedding at the weekend, leaving Prince William to attend with sister-in-law Pippa Middleton.

She had been expected to attend the wedding of socialite Daisy Dickson and estate agent Bear Maclean at at All Saints Church in Thurlestone, Devon.

A source previously said: "The names William and Catherine Wales were written on the plan, which appeared on an antique-looking mirror.

"They were due to sit at the top table. Kate had been expected to attend.

"No one knows why. Everyone was talking about it over breakfast the next morning."
