Britain's Duchess Catherine could return to her royal duties as early as next month.

The Duchess - who was known as Kate Middleton prior to her marriage to Prince William - has been suffering with severe morning sickness in recent weeks, but it appears she may soon be able to return to her royal work.

A spokesperson suggested to the Mail on Sunday newspaper that the Duchess, 32 - who is pregnant with her second child - will soon be able to fulfil her royal engagements, saying: "There will be engagements in October and November.

"We just haven't announced them yet."

Duchess Catherine, who announced her pregnancy at the start of the month, has already been forced to withdraw from a number of her planned visits, including one to Malta as part of the island's celebrations of independence.

Prince William took her place on the visit and a report recently suggested his appearance has spiked a huge interest in the area.

Hotel comparison website Trivago revealed online search traffic for the island jumped by as much as 71 per cent after the 32-year-old royal visited the island, which is already popular among holidaymakers.
