Duchess of Cornwall

Britain's Duchess of Cornwall struggled to cut her birthday cake with a sword.

Camilla was celebrating her 66th birthday yesterday (17.07.13) in Lostwithiel, Cornwall, and was presented with a hat-shaped cake by the town's mayor, Gill Parsons.

The Lord Lieutenant of Cornwall, Colonel Edward Bolitho, handed the duchess a sword, but she needed her husband the Prince of Wales' help to cut through the iced block.

Local resident Miss Dingle made the treat and - despite only baking professionally for a year - her talents were much appreciated.

She told the Daily Express newspaper: "The duchess said she was looking forward to having a slice of the cake

"She took the whole thing with her to have later on. She said the cake looked beautiful.

"I was very nervous, especially as I had not made many cakes before."

The royal couple were in the town of Lostwithielfor as part of a three-day visit to Devon and Cornwall, and were met by hordes of well-wishers.

Camilla admitted earlier this week the entire family have been on the edge of their seats waiting for news of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's baby, whose birth is expected imminently.

She previously said: "We're all waiting at the end of a telephone. I hope by the end of the week he or she will be there."
