The British Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's baby should have a "jolly" upbringing.
Princess Margaret, Queen Elizabeth II's cousin, revealed she expects the couple - who are expecting the birth of their first child imminently - will give their offspring an "ordinary" early life.
She told CNN International: "I imagine and hope that the baby's early life, at least until its teens, will be just a jolly, happy, ordinary child's life."
Despite its extraordinary surroundings, Margaret pointed to the reigning British monarch's own upbringing along with her sister - also Princess Margaret - as an example of the efforts the royal family will go to in protecting the "sacrosanct" nature of childhood.
She added: "The king and queen in those days made an enormous effort to keep their childhood sort of sacrosanct.
"I mean, it was just a time for learning and enjoying. And I think that they have succeeded awfully well."
As Duchess Catherine's life in the public eye grows, she has had to also live in the shadow of her husband's late mother Princess Diana.
Asked how she compares, Margaret insisted she is carrying out her roles "beautifully" and in a "very appealing" manner.
She said: "I think that she's doing very, very well. She's done the jobs that have been given to her to do beautifully. I think she's got a way with her that's going to be very appealing."
